Side-by-Side: This design features a freezer and fresh food compartments that are adjacent to each other, allowing easy access to both. These models have narrow doors that do not need as much clearance, making them popular with gallery-style and tight kitchens. Narrow shelves create a drawback, making large items harder to store.
Top Freezer: Traditional design with the freezer taking up about a third of the unit at eye level with fresh food compartment on bottom. Top Mounts tend to be a less expensive option; however the drawback is bending to get to fresh food.
Bottom Freezer: As opposed to Top Freezer design, this refrigerator is simply designed to have the fresh food compartment conveniently at eye level. The freezer compartment is usually a drawer or a swing-door compartment. These are more energy- efficient refrigerators and more convenient as most people use the fresh food compartment more often.
French Door: This design features a side-by-side fresh food compartment with a freezer drawer or double drawers on bottom, combining the best features of Bottom Freezer and Side-by-Side refrigerators. Narrow swing doors are great for smaller spaces as well as energy-efficient, as most people usually open one door to grab something.
No Freezer: All Refrigerator models do not have a freezer compartment and have more capacity for fresh foods. Usually paired with an All-Freezer model for maximum storage capacity.
Built-In: Features a flush look that blends in with your cabinetry, creating a customized and streamlined look. Some models will have stainless steel fronts while others will take specialized cabinetry to match your kitchen décor. Perfect if you are interested in building a new house or remodeling your kitchen.
Compact: A perfect choice for smaller spaces like dorm rooms, bars, basements, and virtually anywhere.
Under-the-Counter: Installed into the cabinets to provide added refrigeration space and a customized effect.

Counter-Depth: Designed to blend into the wall or cabinetry of your kitchen for a built-in look at a lower cost. The depth is usually less than 27 inches offering a shallow profile. Most models will accept custom panels for a custom look.
Reversible Door: Refrigerators with field-reversible doors allow a right-swing or left-swing door, depending on the design preference in the kitchen.
Accepts Custom Panels: Custom panel ready refrigerators can be created to match your kitchen. Most manufacturers sell color panels and handles separately or you can create custom panels to match your kitchen exactly.
Sabbath Mode: Intended to allow the appliances to be used (subject to various constraints) on the Shabbat and Jewish holidays. A built-in delay prevents the compressor from turning on immediately after the door is opened. The defrost cycle operates solely on clock time without any feedback from consumer usage of the refrigerator.
Energy Star ®: ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators are required to use 20% less energy than models not labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo.
